Cindy Brengman has over 20 years experience as an Early Childhood Educator. As owner/director and former teacher at Sunnyside Preschool, she remains committed in the community, and to the children and families they serve. Currently active in the Lake Stevens School District's Early Learning Focus Group, Cindy ensures that Sunnyside is offering the best, developmentally appropriate instruction, meeting and exceeding standards and striving for excellence in early education. She is in the process of developing a new program to support early learning literacy education for children ages three to five to increase the percentage of children (now only at 50%) who will be ready for kindergarten entrance. Cindy also coordinates a Business Roundtable for Snohomish County Councilman John Koster where community and business leaders explore effective solutions on topics such as education, the economy, and other important issues facing our county. She recently has also served on the Risk Watch Safety Coalition for the Lake Stevens School District and served two years as vice president for KidsDream of Snohomish County. Coordinating two successful fundraising galas helped to fulfill the needs and dreams of abused and neglected children. She is dedicated to, and knowledgeable of her profession, with experience teaching adults and educators in college level classes and at various other workshops.
Cindy has been awarded a Child Development Associate (CDA) by the Council for Early Childhood Education Professional Recognition in Washington D.C. acknowledging her outstanding work with young children and has served five years on the board for the Snohomish County Association for the Education of Young Children (SCAEYC) the local affiliate of the national group (NAEYC). As the nation's largest group of professionals dedicated to ensure high quality, developmentally appropriate programs for children, Sunnyside abides by NAEYC's standards. Cindy recently won BECU's 'Outstanding Volunteer of the Year' award in recognition of her time and dedication to KidsDream and other organizations in the community. In 2002, in collaboration with Snohomish County Fire District #8 in Lake Stevens, The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) International awarded Cindy the prestigious Rolf H. Jenson 'Partners in Public Education' award at the World Safety Congress for implementing a successful fire and life safety education program for children in the Lake Stevens School District. This was accomplished through much community outreach and education, as well as winning grants and fundraising. Two other national awards received by Sunnyside Preschool preceded this award in 1998 and 2000. The school's community outreach has also supported the Lake Stevens Family Center's back to school drive and Christmas giving, local food banks and clothing donations, Providence Medical Children's Center, the Forgotten Children and various others.
